A number of Asian-American hip-hop artists are profiled in Bad Rap. Dumbfoundead, Awkwafina, Rekstizzy, and Lyricks are just a few of the Asian-American hip hop artists, who are trying to make it in the industry. These Asian-American rappers have fight against racial stereotypes and audience expectation in order to become successful in the music industry.
Bad Rap is a documentary that looks at a few of the Asian-American rappers who are trying to make a name for themselves. However, this turns out to be incredibly difficult, since they are often viewed as a niche market in a genre dominated by African-Americans. However, these four end up working very hard to be distinguished for their musical output and not just their race.
If there is any genre of music that has built-in stereotypes, it would be hip-hop, which has been typically dominated by black artists. However, Bad Rap tries to show that hip-hop is not defined by race and that all the profiled rappers are each worthy of success. If you are a fan of the hip-hop genre, Bad Rap is a documentary that is worth checking out.
