TIFF09: Survival of the Dead and Origins of Factum

survivalofthedeadFor my first day of film viewing I checked out George A. Romero's , as well as a presentation called .

Survival of the Dead is, of course, the latest zombie film my Romero and loose follow-up to Diary of the Dead.

The film centers around two feuding families on a island and the debate about whether the undead should be hunted or allowed to survival.

Since Romero now lives and films in Toronto, the film features a lot of local talent that I recognized. It was the first of Romero's films that I saw and it was campy fun film with a lot of interesting zombie kills.

8/10

The Origins of Factum was a presentation by artist Candice Breitz about a video installation she prepared involving twins. She showed clips from the exhibit, as well as from her sources of inspiration.

Being a film student, it was definitely interesting to attend a TIFF event that wasn't purely about film and the presentation was definitely quite intriguing.

I will next be heading to the festival on Wednesday, where I will have a full four-film festival experience.
