TADFF14: Award Winners

A071_C010_0827MA.0001859F The awards have been announced for the 2014 Toronto After Dark Film Festival.  Mirroring the original film’s win in 2009, the Gold Audience Award went to Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead.  This marks the third year in a row that a zombie film has won the audience award, which seems to suggest a pattern.  Dead Snow 2 also got four of the specialty awards, including Best Make-Up, Best Film to Watch with a Crowd, Best Fight, and Best Gore.  The Silver Audience Award went to The Spierig Brothers’ Predestination and the Bronze Audience Award when to the documentary Why Horror?. Another big winner was The Babadook, which continued its multi-award winning streak with five specialty awards, including Best Director, Best Leading Actress, Best Monster/Creature, Scariest Film, and Best Trailer.  Another standout was the horror-comedy Housebound, which won three specialty awards, including Best Horror Film, Best Comedy, and Best Ensemble Cast.  As for shorts, Best Canadian Short Film went to Period Piece and Best International Short went to Invaders.
