My Thoughts on Couples Retreat and Paranormal Activity

In the rare double feature for me as I saw the new Vince Vaughn comedy Couples Retreat followed by a midnight screening of the high-buzz low-budget horror film Paranormal Activity.  It was definitely a busy night. Couples Retreat Starting with The Break-Up, it really seems that Vince Vaughn has picked a lot of mainstream “safe” […]

My Thoughts in The Invention of Lying

The Invention of Lying is Ricky Gervais’ second major staring role in North America, following last year’s Ghost Town.  I do have to say that this film better shows off Gervais’ talent as a comedian. The comedy in the film comes from how the film takes place in a world where everyone tells the truth […]

My Thoughts on Surrogates

At the very least I can say that Surrogates is a decent sci-fi thriller. I’d say the film obviously has it’s flaws, but it was overall an entertaining film experience. Not really much more I can say. 8/10

TIFF09: My Thoughts on Jennifer’s Body

This film opens tomorrow, so this can also be considered a normal review. The big thing that is apparent about this film is that it is more dark comedy than horror. There were a lot of parts in the film that caused people to laugh, but I considered them more bad puns than anything. The […]

TIFF09: My Thoughts on Survival of the Dead and Origins of Factum

For my first day of film viewing I checked out George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead, as well as a presentation called Origins of Factum. Survival of the Dead is, of course, the latest zombie film my Romero and loose follow-up to Diary of the Dead. The film centers around two feuding families on […]

My Thoughts on Gamer

Earlier this year, I was quite disappointed by Crank: High Voltage. As such, I was understandedly skeptical of NeveldineTaylor’s follow-up Gamer. Well, it was a little better. The film, especially in the early scenes, still had the ugly cinematography and gratuitous content that was present in Crank 2. In fact, I even noticed a few […]

My Thoughts on Rob Zombie’s Halloween II

As you may remember, I quickly fell out of favour with Rob Zombie’s original remake of Halloween when he seemed intent having the focus more on Michael Myers than Laurie Strode. Thankfully that is remedied in this sequel, which also features an original story instead of the film being a remake of the original Halloween […]

My Thoughts on Inglourious Basterds

It took more than a decade for Inglourious Basterds to get made and I have to say that it is quite possibly the best film Quentin Tarantino has directed since Pulp Fiction. While the marketing for the film focuses on Brad Pitt and his band of Nazi-killing soldiers, the film is really an ensemble piece […]
