2014 was a milestone year for me, since I celebrated ten years of film blogging. I am very proud that I kept it up this long and if you haven’t already, you should read the very in-depth retrospective post I wrote in August. When it comes to quantity of posts, this was my best year since 2009. Including this year-in-review post, I made 352 posts in 2014, which is actually the most I’ve ever posted. The increase is post quantity can be partially attributed to the very in-depth film festival coverage I did this year, particularly the over 50 films I saw and reviewed during Hot Docs. In fact, my reviews continue to be my most popular posts. While the bulk of reviews deal with major theatrical releases, I also started my new Indie Spotlight series, where I reviewed films that either did not get a very wide theatrical release or went straight to home video or VOD. One of my post popular reviews in that series was my review for the VOD release Angry Videogame Nerd: The Movie. While I write a good quantity of reviews, this year actually saw me write less opinion pieces. This is partially due to my status as a contributor for Toronto Film Scene, with me saving such pieces for the online magazine. However, I still found time to write pieces on Cineplex’s proposal of multi-tier ticket pricing, the cinematic depiction of Quicksilver, the adaptation of The Giver, and the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters. A moment from 2014 that I am still very proud of is the fact that I got my very first pull-quote in the trailer for The Animal Project. Even though the quote is from a review I wrote for Toronto Film Scene, I am still very proud of the fact that my name was seen on movie screens. 2014 was also a year I got into podcasting. Even though my efforts to start my own podcast died a very quiet death after two episodes, I have become a regular panel member for The Dew Over podcast, with me having appeared on four episodes, with a fifth appearance recording this upcoming week. I also had an enjoyable time going on the Soundtrack of Your Life podcast in October and talking about the soundtrack for Donnie Darko. Even though the fact that I have Asperger’s Syndrome limits my speaking ability on these shows, it has been very fun and I look forward to contributing to more shows in 2015. Well, that will probably wrap up my year in review for 2014. Here’s to a great 2015!
