Scream 6 Greenlit

I may have only seen the latest film earlier this week, but Paramount and Spyglass Entertainment have greenlit a sixth entry to the Scream franchise. Since its release on January 14, 2022, the new Scream, directed by Radio Silence’s and Tyler Gillett, has earned a global gross of more than $106.7 million. The directing duo will be returning for the sequel, along with writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, with Scream 6 beginning production this summer.

The original Scream released in 1996, ushered in a new era for the horror genre and make film stars out of , , and Courtney Cox. Director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson planned for the series to be a trilogy, with the sequels Scream 2 in 1997 and Scream 3 in 2000. The release of Scream 4 in 2011 intended to begin a new trilogy, but those plans derailed after poor box office for the film and the death of Wes Craven in 2015. A TV series based on the Scream films aired on MTV from 2015 to 2019.

After Paramount and Spyglass Entertainment acquired the rights to the series from Dimension Films, production commenced on a new film, with Kevin Williamson on board as Executive Producer and a new cast that includes , , , , and . Williamson will return as an executive producer for Scream 6, with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak producing.

At this time, there is no news about the cast and release date for Scream 6.
