Well another edition of the Globes is in the can. Let’s see how things turned out:
Best Picture – Drama
Final Thoughts: This film is all over the place right now. I am fairly certain that this film will be the top contender for the Oscars.
Best Picture – Musical or Comedy
Final Thoughts: I won’t be surprised if this is among the best picture nominees come Oscartime.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
Final Thoughts: This is proof that award shows aren’t always popularity contests. I wonder if this win will help Hoffman’s Oscar chances.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
Final Thoughts: This was the role that stood out among the nominees. I’m not at all surprised that she’s the winner.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
Final Thoughts: It seems people really love actors in biopics. I think we should expect an Oscar nom.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
Final Thoughts: I said before, with my predictions, that Witherspoon really stood out. I don’t think this will be the last we see of her this awards season.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
My Prediction: Matt Dillon
Winner: George Clooney
Final Thoughts: This one caught me a bit of surprise. Maybe I should check out Syriana to see if George Clooney’s really that good.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
My Prediction: Michelle Williams
Winner: Rachel Weisz
Final Thoughts: I’m not surprised that Weisz won (she was my alternate pick after all). I’ll pay closer attention to the buzz come the Oscars.
Best Director – Motion Picture
Final Thoughts: Yeah, it’s definitely Brokeback Mountain’s year.
Best Screenplay – Motion Picture
My Prediction: Paul Haggis, Bobby Moresco
Winner: Larry McMurtry, Diana Ossana
Final Thoughts: Repeat last comment
Best Original Score – Motion Picture
My Prediction: Gustavo Santaolalla
Winner:John Williams
Final Thoughts: I never see John Williams win. At least Brokeback isn’t winning everything.
Best Original Song – Motion Picture
Final Thoughts: Lucky guess, but not suprising.
Best Foreign Language Film
My Prediction: Kung Fu Hustle
Winner: Paradise Now
Final Thoughts: Note to self, never again pick the only foreign film you’ve seen, unless you are sure it will win.
8 out of 13. Not bad, especially since I lost out of the first few awards. In 2 weeks, the Oscar nominations will be announced and then the real fun with begin.
