I actually watched the nominees live this morning. Random thoughts:
- District 9 and Up were the stand-outs in the expanded Best Picture category
- The only real surprise in Best Actor is Jeremy Renner
- In the Best Animated category, the stand-out is The Secret of Kells, which I never heard of before.
- Best Song once again has multiple nominees for a single film (that being The Princess and the Frog with two)
I’d say most of the nominees met general expectations and the challenge now will be to predict the winners (and maybe see the Best Picture nominees I haven’t seen). The Oscars happen on March 7.
