I don’t think there has been any comedian that received so much exposure in a three year period. Heck, even Will Ferrel spent years becoming popular on Saturday Night Live before he had hit films.
In the years after Liar, Liar, Carrey moved on to more serious films (such as The Truman Show, Man on the Moon, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), but he still returned to comedy from time to time. Some were hits (like 2003’s Bruce Almighty) and others were misses (2005’s Fun with Dick and Jane).
I’m glad to say that Yes Man, while not on the laughter level of his early comedies, can be put in the former category.
Carrey does a lot of outrageous things in this film and it was just fun to watch. The story is a bit formulaic, but the amount of laughs in the film made up for it.
Like I said, Jim Carrey has had a very interesting career, and even though he is pushing 50, I hope he keeps coming out with films like this.
